This is another cool Dogmantics Dog Training Tip on how to teach your dog to walk next to you on a loose leash.
If you are consistent with this behavior, you can actually make pressure on the leash a CUE for the dog to back up and they learn to walk on a loose leash as a default.
=—-
Teaching a dog to back up into the heel position on walks is helpful for many reasons.
1- If you have more than one dog on a walk sometimes it can be hard to turn around and go the other way if both dogs are ahead of you. Teaching them to back into the heel position allows you to move freely
2- If you train your dog that when he reaches the end of the leash the only way he can move forwards again is to back up, he will consciously start avoiding hitting the end of the leash. This means- No more pulling on leash.
3- This is a great impulse control exercise based on the Premack Principle. In order to move forwards you must first move backwards.

Would you ever take a cat to a training class like that? And yes, cats can be trained the same as dogs. So knowing that your cat could be trained the same as a dog, would you ever take your cat to a class to learn obedience or tricks?
Wow, really positive answers! I agree, I think it would bring a cat and owner closer, just like training a dog would. I don’t think many people think about that, though!
Does anyone know anywhere that offers those classes for cats?
I already taught one of my kittys how to sit (It’s so cute!) so definately…. I think it would bring cats and their owners together..

How much would you pay for in home obedience dog training lessons that comes with a guarantee of success, which means, if after 6 lessons the owners are not completely satisfied, we will keep coming back for free until you are. Please state what currency. Thanks
This will only work if you practise what you are taught every day, you cannot expect to learn a lot in six lessons. Do not pay for six lessons in advance, as he may use rough methods which you will object to.

I would like to get a dog but I cannot currently, circumstances wont allow it. But since I have never had owned a dog myself I don’t even know how to teach a dog how to sit! Where can I go to learn dog training without having a dog to train?
You could borrow one from a friend and start with something as simple as Petsmart classes. You also might consider a Schutzhund club….possibly training as a "helper". Eventually, you’d want to apprentice under a seasoned trainer for 1-3 years. The more dogs and the more diverse the breeds, the better.

If only your dog could use the toilet just like you do. That would make life so much easier. But as most dog owners are aware potty training your dog means teaching them to do their business outside, not on the living room carpet. Potty training can take some time and patience and a great deal of your success will depend on the dog, but once he’s house broken the effort will have been well worth it.
Probably the easiest method for potty training your dog is the newspaper method. In its simplest terms newspaper training involves laying down newspapers in a certain corner of the house, maybe the extra bathroom or utility room, and getting your dog to only do his duty there. Every hour or so take your dog to this area and use the same command each time that you wish to use that signals him to go the bathroom. Also keep an eye on your dog around the house and when he starts to go potty take him to the newspaper toilet and give him the command, chances are he will start to understand that this is the designated spot to take care of business.
Be sure to praise him every time he goes to the toilet when and where he is supposed to. This is positive reinforcement and dogs for the most part live to please their owners. If your four legged friend does make a mistake it is important not to punish him, particularly if you didn’t catch him in the act. He will not understand what he is being punished for and will eventually start to fear you. If you do catch him in the act firmly tell him no and take him to his newspapers or outside.
Submissive urinating can also be a problem when it comes to potty training your dog. Some dogs get so excited when you come home or they meet someone new or another dog that they loose control and wet themselves and who ever may be around them. By properly house breaking your dog he will learn bladder control even in the most exciting or stressful of situations.
Potty training will take some time and patience. How fast your dog learns will also depend on how much effort you put into it and the type of dog you have. Some breeds just pick up on it quicker and are much easier to train. In the end having a potty trained dog will make both you and your furry friend much happier.

i am trying to start a small time dog training business on the side, but want to make sure i am insured for my customers, and my safety and comfort. i have searched several times but am unable to find reasonable insurance, does anyone know where i can find any? thanks!
I don’t know specifically, but a good source of information would be other licensed trainers in your area. Google dog trainer or dog behavioralist for your area, and see if you can call somebody local who has a training business up and running.
