Some questions about becoming a guide dog trainer?
Hi, I was wondering do you get specific training at the guide dog centre to become a guide dog trainer? And how much does it cost, approximately.
Can you be a guide dog trainer while being a puppy raiser?
And do you have to become a guide dog trainer first and then be a guide dog mobility trainer?
Thank you.
I suggest you contact Bergin University of Canine Studies for some information. There are several ways to get involved with service dog organizations; including: puppy raising, training, working at the organization itself, etc. If you do not have experience with dogs, you may wish to start volunteering at the local humane society, etc.
Puppy raising does not give you access rights with the puppy, but if you are actively training the dog for the organization, you may have access rights with the dog depending on which state you live in.
Keep in mind that service dogs require very specialized training. The average pet dog trainer is typically not capable of training a service dog, nor should he/she be.

Depends on how much you know how to train the puppies to becoming guide dog, its all about is, teaching guide dog to guide blind/partily sighted people safety like stop sits at every kerbs and stop when some people running forward to you, and getting into someone’s way who pushing trolley. walks steady. food refusal etc there is a lot thing to do.
If you are becoming a guide dog mobility trainer you will have to travel all over and meet blind/partily sighted people to get some ideas what best for their needs like writing down information then go back the guide dog center to find right dog matched for their needings
I had guide dog mobitily trainer coming my house to visit before I had my guide dog, and still coming visit me after I have guide dog just checking on how i get on with guide dog she was only visiting to write down aftercare report.
I am not sure if you could be guide dog trainer while being a puppy raiser
i think you should ask guide dog center for some information, they would give you better information.
By the way, I am guide dog owner

It generally takes a college degree and three years experience to become a guide dog trainer or mobility trainer.
