Pitbulls have been given a bad rap by the media and irresponsible, even abusive owners. This episode of Dogmantics focuses on one trainers journey into the heart of the breed and what she found out along her way. Harley, her dog, began her mission to dispel the myths surrounding the breed. Jessica gives us some training tips for pitbulls and demonstrates how clicker training seems like it was almost invented for this particular breed.

Wow I really liked …
Wow I really liked this vid!! Pitbulls have always been one of my favorite breeds. Sadly my dad won’t let me own one. I keep trying to explain that they are wonderful and were more known as nanny dogs then biters back before all the media crap. Oh well. I’ll just have to get one when I finish school and I’m out of the house. A pit would be a wonderful play mate for my crazy hyper dobie!!

Perfect blend of …
Perfect blend of info, entertainment & humor! I cracked up when Jessica talked about patting down her dog for any “lock jaws.” This has inspired me to do more clicker training with my pit mix, Shelby. I love her dearly for being so brilliant and challenging me to be more creative as a trainer. Thanks for the great ideas!

Great job, Emily …
Great job, Emily and Jessica. As you know, I’m a herding breed person, but the few pitties I’ve been around have been dolls. Sadly, they are often on the news out here in Miami (where the breed has been banned) for all the wrong reasons.

This was great! …
This was great! Thank you Emily for getting Jessica to discuss the myths about Pitbulls and for showing us some wonderful tricks. My cousin has a 2 year old Pitbull called Knuckles and she can’t even take him for a walk without having people staring at them. He’s such a smart and amazing dog. I wish people could just ignore what they hear in the media and realise that any dog is a good dog if trained and socialized correctly. xox

This is such a …
This is such a great segment of Dogmantics. You and your friend deserve a kudos for standing up for Pitbulls and informing how SWEET they actually are! It’s a sin that they’re usually the choice dogs of highly irresponsible pet owners and they are looked at as property and not family.

Thanks for making …
People these days hear everything about pitties from the media and don’t even think to separate truth from myth.
Thanks for making this vid, pitties are an amazing breed, and I would love to have one if they weren’t banned here
What Jessica said about terriers was just SO true!! Terriers can go from being completely normal to being completely out of control, “crazy,” and not in control of their impulses, so with any terrier, a necessary part of training should be teaching the dog to relax.
